Ice swim Nov 16 2013

Hi, I know it's been a while posting since my attempt and postponement of my Lake Ontario swim.  So I thought I would pop in and fill you all in on what is going on with me.

As for my lake Ontario swim? I am still planning on doing it. I just haven't decided when yet? I'm still looking for the required boats and until then I can't do much else.  My goal now is if I find my required boats come this summer I will register again with SOLO swim to do my lake crossing in Aug 2014, I have until April 30 to register, but as I'm having my doubts about securing my boats for this coming summer, I am planning on a more realistic attempt to swim Lake Ontario come 2015.

I have been planning on and have been working on making a video of my journey over the last two years leading up to and including my last min cancelation/postponement of my lake swim. When that is done I will post it.

As for what I have been doing since July 28?  Well first of all I have been healing up my foot. As you remember On the day I was suppose to swim Lake Ontario since it was postponed I wanted to swim from Carthrew Bay Orillia to Barrie's Centennial beach about 27k but in the process of getting ready and putting my boat in the water I stepped on a sharp rock which punctured into my planter fascia and tearing it again, the same one I tore in 2007. I did manage to swim 6km that day, but because of weather conditions being bad with high winds causing very ruff water I called it a day.

Well, as for my foot now? I can't say it's all healed, as there is a very noticeable knot in the tendon that you can feel, but it is good enough now and I have been able to start running again.

In the mean time I have still kept on with my swimming in the lake and decided I might try my hand at an official open water Ice swim which is a mile swim in water that is 5C or less without getting out only wearing a bathing suit swim cap and goggles, same rules as normal open water, not wetsuit fins etc! So I'm still swimming in the lake weekly sans wetsuit albeit not for very long! I'm just preparing myself for when the water reaches 5C or less to give it a go.

So Today I went out in hopes of having the ideal water temp or 5C or under to attempt my mile swim.

But wouldn't you know it, today being Nov 16, 2013 the water temp was to warm for an official Ice swim at 6.5C 46F!!

But I still had fun in the sun and surf a sand at Centennial beach this morning with a practice swim and here is a video of today swim......Enjoy!
